Is Barry Zito Returning to Form?

by

Barry Zito had an impressive eight innings on the mound against the Padres last evening, allowing only one run off of four hits while walking no batters. This was the first time he has recorded zero base on balls in almost two years and the first time time he struck-out seven while walking no one in exactly four seasons!  Since returning to the Giant’s starting rotation on June 28th Zito is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA and .81 WHIP (walks and hits per inning).  Even with his current dominance on the hill, Zito will never be able to justify his record-breaking seven year $126 million contract.  However, have Zito’s recent starts earned him the fifth spot in the Giant’s rotation over the struggling Jonathan Sanchez?

Zito compared to Sanchez over their last 3 stars

As the Giant’s offense continues to struggle can Bruce Bochy afford to put the Major League leader in walks, Jonathan Sanchez, back on the mound?  Or should Bochy place his faith in the man who has been arguably the franchise’s biggest failure?
