Keys to the Game: Blue Jays Vs Athletics, August 18, 2011

August 18, 2011

Arguably the hottest pitcher in the Majors right now, Ricky Romero, will take the mound this evening when the Toronto Blue Jays open a four game series in Oakland.  Romero has had total command over the plate in his last four starts, allowing only four Runs in 31 and 1/3 innings with 24 Strikeouts and nine walks.

The Athletics will counter with the struggling Trevor Cahill (1-6 in his last nine starts).  Cahill has given up 36 Runs and  five Home Runs in his previous 53 innings.

Toronto holds the advantage at the plate as well.  This season the Blue Jays have scored 102 more Runs than the Athletics and their team OPS is 58 points higher.  Compare the offensive production of Toronto’s and Oakland’s starting lineup tonight:

TOR: RBIs (Blue), HRs (Orange) & Hits (Green)

OAK: RBIs (Blue), HRs (Orange) & Hits (Green)

The Athletics will need to overcome a lot tonight to gain a victory at the Coliseum.

Keys to the Game: Angels Vs Blue Jays, August 13, 2011

August 13, 2011

After their 5-1 victory last evening, the Los Angeles Angels will send their Ace, Jared Weaver, to the mound at the Rogers Centre this afternoon.  Fresh off of a six game suspension, Weaver looks to bolster his Cy Young candidacy with another dominate outing.  The Blue Jays will counter with their opening day starter, Ricky Romero.  Romero has been Weaveresque in his last three starts, posting a 1.11 ERA. See how to today’s starters compare over their last three starts:

Weaver will face the high powered Toronto offense (6th in the Majors in runs scored) that performs much better inside the Rogers Centre.  Check out the production of the Blue Jays’ starting lineup today at home and on the road:

RBIs (Blue), HRs (Orange) & SOs (Green)

Fortunately for Weaver and the Angels, the Major League leader in Home Runs, Jose Bautista, is out of Toronto’s lineup today, as he committed two errors in last night’s loss.  Will Weaver get his 15th win this afternoon or will Romero continue his streak of dominant starts?
