Keys to the Game: Rangers Vs. Rays, ALDS Game Three

October 3, 2011

Splitting the first two games of the series in Arlington, the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays will seek a decisive game three victory this afternoon at Tropicana Field. The Rangers will send Colby Lewis (14-10, 4.40 ERA) to the hill. Lewis has been streaky this season but did pitch eight shutout innings in Tampa Bay this July. Lewis went 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA in the 2010 postseason and is 3-0 in three career starts against the Rays. Tampa Bay will counter with struggling David Price (12-13, 3.49 ERA), who has not won a game in over a month. Also, Price has never defeated the Rangers, including two devastating losses to Texas in last years ALDS, and has an enormous 5.69 ERA in six career starts. Check out how many Runs Colby Lewis and David Price allowed in each start this season and how it effected their ERAs.

Click for much further insight on Lewis and Price.

Will Lewis continue his postseason and career success against the Rays or can Price snap out of his funk and pitch a dominant game?

Keys to the Game: Rangers Vs Angels, August 15, 2011

August 15, 2011

Tonight the AL West leading Texas Rangers travel to Anaheim to open a pivotal four game series against the second place Los Angeles Angels.  The Rangers hope to extend their four game lead with Alexi Ogando (11-5, 3.22 ERA) on the mound tonight. Ogando will look to return to form tonight as his previous four starts have not been stellar.  Compare Ogando’s last four starts with his amazing success in his 10 career appearance against the Angels.  The Angels counter with Rookie, Garrett Richards (0-1, 10.80 ERA), who is seeking his first Major League win.

The bat of each teams’ Right Fielder could determine the outcome of tonight’s game.  The Angels’ Torii Hunter is currently red-hot, batting .455 during a 12-game hitting streak.  If the Angels hope to gain ground in the division, Hunter must improved his dismal .118 batting average in nine games against the Rangers this season. Nelson Cruz has been a huge asset for the powerful Ranger’s offense, knocking in 75 runs and hitting 25 balls out of the park so far in 2011.  Check out the production of Hunter and Cruz.

Hits (Blue), RBIs (Orange) & HRs (Green)

With only 41 games remaining in the season and 10 games left against the Rangers, the Angels must win or at least tie this series if they hope to stay in the hunt for October.

Mariner Meltdown

July 25, 2011

The Seattle Mariners are currently in the midst of a franchise record 15 game losing streak, the longest Major League skid since the 2005 Royals lost 19 straight games.  The Mariners, who are 14.5 games back of first place Texas in the AL West, have been outscored 87-40 in the last 15 games.  The Mariners have the lowest team batting average (.226) in the majors and an atrocious weighted Runs Created plus of 77. Things won’t get any easier for Seattle as the open a three game series against the Yankees tonight in the Bronx.  Here is how the struggling Mariner’s offense compares to the red-hot pinstripe bats.

Rangers Vying for a Team Record

July 23, 2011

The Rangers are trying to win their ninth straight game at home. If accomplished, this would be the first time the organization has achieved this feat in six seasons. The Rangers will have to get pass the Blue Jays, who have a 50-50 average and are ranked fourth in the AL East. Although their stats may not be the best in the AL East, the Blue Jays have won seven of their last 10 games. Let’s compare the teams’ offenses and defenses to predict today’s winner.

The Rangers appear to be the stronger team in this match-up. Let’s watch and see if they can accomplish a team record today.
