Keys to the Game: Orioles Vs. Red Sox, September 21, 2011

by

The Boston Red Sox are reeling as they currently hold a tenuous two game lead over Tampa Bay in the AL Wild Card Race. The Red Sox are 5-15 in September and have recently dropped two out of three to perpetual AL East cellar dweller Baltimore. Hopefully for Red Sox Nation, Ace Josh Beckett (13-5, 2.50 ERA) can stop the bleeding tonight. Beckett is 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA in his last five starts and 6-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 13 starts at Fenway this year. Check out Beckett’s performance at Fenway in 2011.

Earned Runs Allowed (Blue), HRs Allowed (Orange) & Strikeouts (Green)

Baltimore will counter will Tommy Hunter (4-4, 4.81), who is coming off of his best outing of the season in which he allowed zero runs off of seven hits in seven innings. Hunter hasn’t been too stellar on the road this season allowing 22 Earned Runs in only 30 innings.

Both these clubs have high powered offenses and have already combined for 50 runs in the first three games of this series. Compare Boston’s and Baltimore’s offense.

Will the Beckett and the Red Sox halt their free fall or will the Orioles continue to thrive in their relishing role as spoilers?
