Red Birds Rolling with Pujols Power

The St. Louis Cardinals are in the midst of stupendous September surge, gaining substantial ground on the recently seemingly unattainable Wild Card. Since August 30th, the Cardinals have gone 14-5 and won an incredible 11 out of 14 games against the Brewers, Braves, and Phillies, the elite of the National League. One of the Cardinals’ catalysts has been the resurgence of All-Star slugger, Albert Pujols. In September, Pujols is bating .394 with 17 RBIs and an OPS of 1.094. Pujols has raised his season batting average to .299 and with his 96 RBIs and 36 Home Runs he is close to achieving the .300 batting average, 30 Home Runs and 100 RBIs benchmark for the 11th season in a row. Only Babe Ruth has more (12) .300/30/100 seasons. The Babe played in the Majors for 22 season, while this is Pujols’ 11th!Check out Pujols’ Suburb September.

Runs Scored (Blue), RBIs (Orange) & Total Bases (Green)

Pujols’ contract is up at the end of the season and his future in St. Louis is up in the air. Will Pujols’ herculean late-season effort propel the Red Birds pasts the Braves and treat the Cardinal faithful to a possibly final Pujols playoff run?
