Keys to the Game: Rangers Vs Red Sox, September 2, 2011

by

Tonight two of the top teams in the American League will square off in a potential postseason preview when the Texas Rangers open a three game set at Fenway Park.  While Texas is 4-3 against the Red Sox this season, Boston has won the last three games by a combined score of 30-7.  Both clubs have potent offenses as the Red Sox and Rangers are first and second in the Majors in team batting average with .280, and .275 respectively.  Compare the numbers of Boston’s top four sluggers of David Ortiz, Adrian Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury with Texas’ fearsome foursome of Adrian Beltre, Michael Young, Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz.

Tonight’s pitching match-up features two talented young arms. Boston will send Andrew Miller (7-, 4.42) to the mound and Texas will counter with Derek Holland (12-5, 4.30).  Check out their numbers over their last 5 starts.

Can Boston sustain their recent slugging shellacking of the Rangers? Or will Holland, who is leading the American League with four Shutouts this season, be able to fasten the floodgate at Fenway?
