The annual Home Run Derby is scheduled for July 11, 2011. To prepare baseball fans of what to expect, let’s take a look at the leading homerun hitters in the National and American Leagues.

Leading the National League is the Dodgers’ Matt Kemp with 21 homeruns. In the running are the Brewers’ Prince Fielder and the Cardinals’ Lance Berkman and Albert Pujols.

The American League homerun leaders consist of Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista with 23 homeruns and  and Mark Teixeira,  followed by a tie between Paul Konerko of he White Soxand Curtis Granderson of the Yankees’ with 21 homeruns each.

Not all of the top HR hitters are on fire! Matt Kemp for example has not produced for the Dodgers in the last 10 games with 1 HR and only 9 hits. Hopefully he will show up to excite the crowd at this year’s home run derby.
